If I ask: do ponse lo ractu ji lo smani .i

You can just respond: ".e", "na.e", ".enai", or "na.enai".

But if I ask: do ponse lo ractu ji lo gerku ji lo smani .i

How may you respond?

What about more complex questions of this type?

>> No.362

You may respond:

.e .i .e
.e .i .enai
.enai .i .e
na.e .i .e
.enai .i .enai
na.e .i .enai
na.enai .i .e
na.enai .i .enai

but it's probably more clear to spell it out:

lo ractu (na).e(nai) lo gerku .e(nai) lo smani

What about [lo ractu (na).e lo gerku (na).e(nai) lo smani]?

By the way, how does one say al of those optional-type of words that are in parenthesis? Is it just a system used in English and should not be used in Lojban, or is there a way? I think that it would be really annoying having to spell out every option.

That's grammatical too, but because of the left grouping it doesn't really give a full answer like the others:

(lo ractu .e lo gerku) na.e lo smani
= (lo ractu na.anai lo gerku) .e lo smani

So you are not really saying whether you have a dog or not, for example.
