What is an example of the x3 of "traji"?

>> No.921

The x3 place of {traji} property in which something is superlative. It is the extremum.

{do traji lo ka melbi ku lo ka zmadu} "superlative in the property of being more in having the property of being beautiful" -- "prettiest"

{do traji lo ka melbi ku lo ka mleca} "superlative in the property of being less in having the property of being beautiful" -- "ugliest"

I don't know of any others.

I do not understand (I am someone other than the person who orignially posted the question).

"traji" tells you something is at the fartheset end of some scale. The x3 place of traji is used to describe which end of the scale something is at. The default, "ka zmadu", means the end of the scale where something is more x2 than anything else. "ka mleca" means the end of the scale where something is less x2 than anything else.

do traji lo kamymle lo ka zmadu
"You (x1) are more (x3) beautiful (x2) than anything else."
"You are the most beautiful."

do traji lo kamymle lo ka mleca
"You (x1) are less (x3) beautiful (x2) than anything else."
"You are the least beautiful."

do traji fi lo ka stuna
"You (x1) are to the east (x3) of everything else."
"You are the most eastern."

I hope this helps you understand, >>923

Is there any difference between these:

do traji fi lo ka stuna
"You (x1) are to the east (x3) of everything else."
"You are the most eastern."

do traji lo ka stuna lo ka zmadu
"You (x1) are more (x3) eastern (x2) than anything else."
"You are the most eastern."

I think so, but it's quite subtle. The former claims you are more eastern on some unspecified scale (probably location) than anything else. The latter claims that on the scale of easterness, nothing is more eastern than you are.

After thinkin about it (for too long), I think it would be simpler to stick with "do traji lo ka stuna" in most situations. I can think of at least one other useful x3: "lo ka nutli".

do traji lo kamymle lo ka nutli
"You are the most neutral/the least extreme in beauty."
"No-one is more plain than you."

>> No.944

In fact, I think all cases can always be reduced to "fi lo ka zmadu" cases:

do traji lo ka nutli lo ka melbi kei kei lo ka zmadu
"You are the most neutral in beauty."

do traji lo ka mleca fi lo ka melbi kei kei lo ka zmadu
"You are the most-less (least) in beauty."

In actual usage, nobody ever uses "traji" for anything but "most", as far as I'm aware. That makes the x3 rather pointless, which is somewhat unfortunate because it sometimes gets in the way of the x4 which can be useful. My personal way of dealing with this is to ignore the x3 and take "traji" as meaning just "x1 is the most x2 among x3". For "least" I use "tolrai", "x is the least x2 among x3".

"mutce" has a similarly pointless x3, but in this case it is not so harmful as it doesn't really get in the way of anything so it can be ignored without any explanations needed.
